Welcome to the Diary of a PGA TOUR marshal. These entries are taken directly from my journal as a volunteer at PGA TOUR and USGA events, starting with my first day in 2009 and continuing up to the present time. The most recent event is listed at the top, followed by subsequent tournament days in sequential order. You'll also read about some of my golf travel experiences and opinions pieces on the state of professional golf along the way. My intent is to share my experiences and attempt to provide a window into what is otherwise a relatively unknown view of PGA TOUR life, as witnessed by a volunteer marshal, who initially didn't know quite what I was getting involved with, but which has exceeded all of my expectations. Without much rumor in advance, the following email was issued to all of us dedicated volunteers at the FedEx Cup Championship at TPC Boston. I have heard from several of my marshal friends who are saddened by this announcement. All are unanimous in their feelings of disappointment but are also able to acknowledge what great friendships have developed over the years.

Volunteers,

As many of you may of heard today, the PGA TOUR announced that this year will be the last year of THE NORTHERN TRUST. Starting in 2022, the FedExCup Playoffs will start at the FedEx St. Jude Invitational, held in Memphis, Tennessee.

Greater Boston has shown great support for PGA TOUR golf at TPC Boston with the Deutsche Bank Championship, the Dell Technologies Championship, and most recently THE NORTHERN TRUST in 2020. Boston is an iconic sports town with incredibly passionate fans, and will be a great host to the U.S. Open at The Country Club in Brookline next year. While the PGA TOUR will not return to Boston in 2022, we will continue to evaluate future opportunities which may exist.

Although 2020 was not the year we hoped for, I appreciate all those that volunteered. I wish you all nothing but success in the future, and hope to see you volunteering at other events in the future.
